GROUP COUNSELLING


Many of us struggle solo with the challenges of life, work, relationships, and family. These challenges may take the form of anxiety or depression, stress, addiction, eating disorders, or loneliness and isolation. Group counselling provides a rich, safe, nourishing way to address these challenges and make significant progress toward resolution and positive change.

Groups of people with similar issues, will find comfort, a deep sense of connection, and an atmosphere that supports exploration and discovery of new approaches to familiar life problems. Group members are often surprised to find that others have similar feelings and reactions. Other group members often inspire us to take reasonable risks, or to respond in new and creative ways.

FAMILY AND COUPLE COUNSELLING

The purpose of family and couple counselling is to bring about behavioral change and to correct discord within the family unit. Within the family, the behaviours of one member affect the behaviours of all other members. A variety of issues and concerns can be covered in family and couple counselling. When an individual, couple or family comes to counselling they can gain a greater understanding of the issues and find out how they can help.

Some goals are:

  • To improve communication and problem-solving skills
  • Assist clients to understand both themselves and each other
  • Encourage clients to recognized that their behaviours affects those around them
  • Define, understand, and negotiate current expectations and goals in the relationship


The goal of counselling is to help the client identify, clarify, and become proactive regarding the issues they are facing. Counselling helps the client focus on solution-oriented possibilities and empowers them to recognize the choices and resources they have.


PARENT & TEEN MEDIATION SERVICE

Being a teenager can be an exciting time of life. However, the physical and emotional changes that occur during adolescence can also be very confusing. Teenagers may have difficulty talking to their parents and discussions can develop into arguments that are confrontational and stop communication altogether. Mediation involves a neutral person, skilled in working with young people and parents, assisting the family to reach agreement. It allows clear communication, improved relationships and mutually acceptable solutions to issues.

CRISIS MANAGEMENT

There are occasions when help is required on short notice. Crisis response service is available to families or individuals within 24 hours of referral and offers a ‘first response’ in crisis situations.

Short-term strategies are developed to manage the current crisis situation and support is provided to help stabilize those involved. Subsequent counselling or referral to an appropriate follow up service can be provided.


INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

Counselling will provide you with strategies to reduce stress and improve emotional health and well-being. Learn to identify, understand and overcome personal or family problems.

The main purpose of individual counselling is to gain control of your life. Having an objective, compassionate professional counsellor collaborate with you to obtain your goals can be the key to gaining the life changes and control you desire. The journey to improved well-being may be accomplished using a variety of therapeutic techniques. Counselling will help the client understand why they do what they do, both positive and negative. Understanding is the first step to making desired changes, heightening self esteem, and enhancing well being. Counselling can reveal how past experiences affect current difficulties
